Organic farming and foods have gained popularity in the recent years owing to the increasing consumer awareness on ill-effects of high chemical oriented farming and production.
This leaves the question, Do you know the difference between
Organic/Bio-Organic vs. Free Range/Grass Fed/Natural?
This is a farming principle that ensures that no antibiotics or growth hormones are used in the raising of animals. That the food they are fed has never been exposed to pesticides or been genetically modified in which the DNA of the plant has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally.
“Bio” is a highly regulated term in Europe This implies a zero-tolerance policy to the presence of anything non-biological, including chemicals, antibiotics, pesticides, preservatives, or any artificial flavourings. Animals must be fed on bio-feed and raised humanely respecting animal welfare. “Bio” is also a term that refers not just to the ingredients but also the process through which food is produced. This promotes sustainability of our planet and respects the welfare of animals.
ABCert regulates this process to make sure that during the production of Certified Bio-Organic food there is no risk of contamination or exposure to non-Bio-Organic ingredients.
Free-range/Natural or Grass Fed:
The term “Free Range/Natural or Grass Fed” ONLY means that the animals/ingredients used in the production of food were allowed to roam freely and were fed grass instead of grains. There are no controls or guidelines that prevent the use of pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, or genetically modified foods.
There is strong evidence that shows Pesticides, Growth Hormones, Antibiotics, Preservatives, Chemicals and Genetically Modified Foods are large contributors of several chronic diseases not only in humans but also in our beloved pets. To name just a few.
- Kidney and Liver Malfunction
- Weakened Immune System
- Compromised Nutrient Absorption
- Compromised Thyroid Function
- IBS (irritable Bowel Syndrome)
- Diabetes etc.
